Celebrating the 40th birthday of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and the collaborative work of the community, government agencies and industry to ensure the long-term protection of one of the world's most diverse and remarkable ecosystems.

Come along and Celebrate the Reef on Saturday 17 October, at Jezzine Barracks (Townsville) from 9am - 3pm.

Combining Reef Blitz 2015, The Great Barrier Reef Clean-Up and a day long market-style event - it will be a jam packed day with something for everyone.

On the grass, there'll be educational talks and displays, free fun family-friendly activities (including face painting, wildlife displays and games), other family activities (including jumping castles, rides, arts and crafts), food stalls and entertainment on the main stage - bringing together science, education and fun!

It’s an opportunity to learn how you can help protect this very special place now and into the future.

Get up early (starting at 6am) and join in the Reef Blitz 2015 12-hour challenge and the diversity of guided scientific activities on that have been coordinated by the Barrier Reef Foundation.

Part science, part education, part festival – Reef Blitz 2015 is your opportunity to become a champion for our wild species and spaces! ReefBlitz aims to improve understanding of the impacts of climate change and marine debris on the biodiversity of the Great Barrier Reef.

You are invited to take part in scientific surveys on the Reef, promoting community stewardship and helping to develop sustainable communities that support Reef management. Hear talks by scientists, see citizen science groups showcasing their activities, and join in opportunities to get your hands (and feet) dirty. Explore the mangroves and the creatures found there, uncover reptiles and amphibians, discover slithering sea snakes, and MUCH more. Check out the timetable of Reef Blitz activities scheduled and reserve your spots.

You can also participate in the Great Barrier Reef Clean-up. Join with the crew from Tangaroa Blue to clean up marine debris from along the Rowes Bay foreshore.

North Queensland Conservation Council will be there celebrating the Reef too. We will be hosting an information stall showcasing some of our current reef campaigns and also promoting the people's climate march that will be held in late November. So look out for the NQCC flags, and if you are interested in lending a hand to build community awareness of the work of the NQCC and are able to help out on the stall for an hour or two, we would love to hear from you.
