Paperbark January 2024

Paperbark header

I hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well, amid the climate chaos that has been playing out over the past few weeks. Sadly, this is exactly the kind of summer we were expecting.ย

Tropical Cyclone Kirrily may have only been a Category 2, but the impacts on our electricity and telecommunications networks made our heatwave conditions even more deadly, and has exacerbated the cost of living crisis gripping so many of us. Now, the system is delivering extreme flooding to inland communities. Thank you to those who have gone above and beyond to help others at this time. If you have been affected by Cyclone Kirrily, you may be eligible forย financial assistance.

Earlier today, I presented to a committee hearing on the Qld Energy and Jobs Bill, in support of renewable energy to reduce emissions and mitigate the worst of the climate crisis. Some opponents say renewable energy isn't reliable, but we've seen climate change impacting the reliability of our energy network already - and this will only get worse. There is still a chance to fight runaway climate change, and experiencing the climate crisis firsthand only makes us all more determined.

Your support during this pivotal time in history is so appreciated. I hope you find plenty of inspiration in this edition of Paperbark, whichย is absolutely brimming with exciting updates and opportunities to take action.
